Privacy policy
Your clipboard stays on your Mac.
Chronicle 1.0 is a local-first clipboard history utility. It has no account system, analytics, advertising, tracking, or Chronicle-operated cloud service.
The short version
Chronicle stores recent clipboard content locally so you can find and reuse it. Chronicle does not transmit, sell, rent, or share that clipboard history.
Information Chronicle handles
Chronicle 1.0 reads supported content placed on the macOS clipboard, including text, rich text, HTML, images, SVG, links, video, PDF, tables, code, and files. It may also record the name and bundle identifier of the application that was active when the content was copied. This information is used only to provide local clipboard history, previews, and search.
Clipboard entries marked as concealed or sensitive by compatible password managers are ignored when the “Ignore Passwords” preference is enabled. It is enabled by default.
Local storage
Clipboard history, saved payloads, generated thumbnails, cached link metadata, and preferences are stored inside Chronicle’s sandboxed Application Support and preferences containers on your Mac. Chronicle keeps local history until you remove it. Preferences shows the storage used so you can delete individual clips or clear unpinned history whenever you choose.
Data collection and sharing
- No data collection: Chronicle does not send personal data or clipboard content to the developer or a third party.
- No tracking: Chronicle does not track activity across apps or websites.
- No analytics or advertising: Chronicle contains no analytics or advertising SDK.
- No account or server: Chronicle 1.0 does not require an account and does not connect to a Chronicle server.
- Limited network use: Chronicle uses outgoing network access only for link previews that you enable or explicitly request. It has no incoming network entitlement.
System features
If you enable Launch at Login, macOS records that preference and starts Chronicle after you sign in. Chronicle uses Apple system frameworks to provide this feature. V1.0 does not request Accessibility access and does not use iCloud sync.
Optional link previews
Link previews are disabled by default. When you enable them in Settings or choose to load a preview, Chronicle passes that URL to Apple’s Link Presentation framework, which may contact the linked website or service to retrieve its title and artwork. The website may receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address. Chronicle caches the returned metadata locally so it does not need to load the same preview every time. Rohit Designs does not receive the URL or preview request.
Your controls
You can delete individual clipboard entries at any time. Settings also includes a control to clear all unpinned history. Removing Chronicle through standard macOS app-management workflows may not automatically remove its sandboxed user data; that data can be removed through macOS storage management or by deleting Chronicle’s app container.
Future features
Private iCloud sync and other network-backed services are not enabled in Chronicle 1.0. This policy and Chronicle’s App Store privacy disclosure will be updated before any data practice changes.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be published on this page with a revised effective date. The policy that applies is the version available when the corresponding Chronicle release is distributed.
